About the Place

Near Kotdwar in the Uttarakhand is the charming little hill hamlet of Charekh. The elevation of Charekh is nearly 6000 feet (1830 m) above sea level. The renowned sage Maharishi Charak (known for Ayurvedic research) previously lived in Charkanya Shikhar, colloquially known as “Charekh Danda,” his heavenly home. The book, known as “Nighut,” which contained important knowledge on the native medicinal plants of the Himalayas, was compiled here by Maharishi Charak.

Charekh is a little-known hill station that is perfect for tourists looking for peace & tranquility along with stunning vistas.

How to Reach

From Delhi: It is one of the closest hill stations to Delhi, located only about 265 kilometers away. Follow Delhi-Meerut Expressway up to Meerut, then Meerut-Haridwar Highway up to Khatauli. Then follow Miranpur, Bijnor, Kiratpur, Najibabad, Kotdwar. On Kotdwar to Lansdowne road, nearly 1 km before Shri Siddhabali Temple (Kotdwar) take a road (Pulinda Road) leftwards and go nearly 22 km ahead to reach Charekh Danda. Go carefully and avoid to drive at night as road is not wide and in good condition.
